John Hickenlooper is a U.S. Senator for Colorado whose path to politics has been anything but conventional. He began his career as a geologist before moving into business, opening Colorado’s first brewpub in Denver and becoming closely involved in the redevelopment of the city’s Lower Downtown district.

In 2003, Hickenlooper was elected Mayor of Denver, where his administration focused on regional collaboration, transport, education and sustainability. He went on to serve two terms as Governor of Colorado from 2011 to 2019, overseeing a period of significant economic growth while working on issues including healthcare, climate policy and gun safety.

Elected to the U.S. Senate in 2020 and sworn in in 2021, Hickenlooper brings his background in science, business and executive government to Washington. His work in the Senate spans economic opportunity, energy and climate, science and innovation, public lands and the issues shaping Colorado and the wider United States.
